Shakira had a special appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and spoke deeply about the music video for her hit “Te Felicito” which she recorded with Rauw Alejandro and that was hinted that the video and the song are supposedly dedicated to her ex-partner and father of her two children, the Barcelona FC defender Gerard Piqu.
She spoke about how she came up with the concept
Shakira mentions that she hadn’t released music in a while because her priority are her children, and she focuses on that more than anything in the world. She also said that when she is inspired she focuses and starts to plan the video from scratch.
The video is a white canvas
When she starts to create the concept, she mentions that it is like working on a clear canvas where she can create whatever she wants, however this time the masterminds of the video were her two children, Sasha and Miln.
Her children were behind the idea
She said that to create the video, she had both her kids close their eyes and listen to the song, then they’d explore what came to their minds when listening to the song. They had two main ideas, the first and most importantly that she’d be dancing with a robot, and then that there would be a green flame.
She has had great success with hundreds of millions of views and listens
After her creative meeting with her kids, she proposed the idea to Jaume de Laiguana the director of the video and he loved it, then she came up with the choreography and finally scored it big since the video has 174 million views on her official channel alone, the song is also performing really well on Spotify where it has over 120 million plays.
